In the early 2000s I commissioned a story about the death of cool because I found myself in yet another boutique hotel with the same people, the green apples on rough-hewn wood tables on every floor, etc etc, the boutique hotel aesthetic was everywhere. Nothing was "authentic" anymore, especially those claiming it most. That Airbnb look has always felt to me like "disposal boutique hotel."
